Woodfin On November 21, 2018, Betty Marie Marlowe Ellis went home to be with her Lord and Savior, resting from her labor at the age of 89. She was born on November 12, 1929 and was the firstborn child of Willard Bell Marlowe and Thelma Wright Marlowe of Fairview. Marie is survived by a sister, Carolyn Reed of Hendersonville. Preceded in death are her brothers, Wayne and Bobby Marlowe, both of Fairview. Marie was married to Ernest Ellis for 36 years, from August 1948 to the time of his sudden death in September 1984. She was predeceased by their son in 2006, Adrian Nathaniel, following an extended illness. Surviving are their two daughters, Nancy Capps of Asheville and Cynthia McAbee and husband Charles of Alexander, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. The Ellis have been blessed with many wonderful lifelong friends. Maries life is characterized by loving God and loving people. Her life goal was to reach out to others with encouragement and hope as found in Christ. She taught a ladies Bible class for many years and served in the local church in various positions. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Newbridge Baptist Church. Marie enjoyed sharing a gift that she created through her art of ceramics and gave away many pieces each year upon connecting with people through the Ellis Beauty Shop or the Ellis Motor Service, both on Elkwood Avenue in Woodfin. She taught ceramics weekly in the Woodfin Community Center and also in her home. She was active in the community with the Ladies Auxiliary and the Buncombe County Home Extension Association, while Ernest Ellis was Chief of the Woodfin Fire Department for 20 years. As a national-certified ceramics instructor, she retired from the City of Asheville Parks and Recreation in 2012 after teaching ceramics at Harvest House for many years. Services will be held at Newbridge Baptist Church in Asheville on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 2 PM with Pastor Clark E. Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Weaverville. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM at the church.
