Marie Alice Tweed Player Crowder

Asheville - Marie Alice Tweed Player Crowder, 82, formerly of 5 Elkmont Place, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at Universal Health Care of Fletcher. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired from Vanderbilt Shirt Company as a Supervisor, and was a member of Gashes Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Crowder was the daughter of the late Valentine and Annie Gallimore Tweed, and the wife of the late Herman Orr Player, Sr. who passed away in 1969, and Auburn Crowder, who passed away in 1980. She was also preceded in death by a son, Albert Lewis Tweed; four brothers and four sisters. Surviving are her children: Kathleen Arbogast and husband Bill of Asheville, Harold Dean Player and wife Janet of Hilltop Lakes, TX, Herman Player and wife Lois of Fairview, and Phillip Player and wife Anna of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Patty Tweed of Asheville, nine grandchildren eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roland Owenby officiating. Burial will follow in Celebration Church (formerly Boyds Chapel) Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt.
