Asheville - Mamie Ellen Hilton, 91, of Asheville died Sunday, April 21, 2002 at St. Josephs Hospital. Mrs. Hilton was born March 26, 1911 in Knoxville, Tennessee and had lived in Buncombe County since 1936. She was married for 58 years to Jack L. Hilton, Sr. who died in 1985 and was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Nancy Irvin, all seven of her brothers and sisters, two daughters, Dorothy Lou Hilton and Betty Mae Simonds and one grandson. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and was a fine Christian lady who loved her family, loved to garden and work in her flowers. Surviving are her children, Helen Moore of Asheville, Mary Hensley and her husband, Glen of Mauldin, S.C., Irene McHone and her husband Roy David of Asheville, June Whitt and her husband James of Mars Hill, son, Jack L. Hilton, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth of Leicester; 18 grandchildren including granddaughters, Sandra Bowers and her husband Jerry of Asheville and Judy Blankenship and her husband Gary of Bethune, S.C.; 29 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs Rusty Rector and Everette C. Haney, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Terry Hensley, Bobby Hensley, Allen Whitt, John Paul McHone, Roger Price, Dennis Sutton and Nate Chewning. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 pm Monday at the funeral home and at other times, the family will be at the home of Sandra and Jerry Bowers.
