Major James Hipps

September 1, 1925 — January 26, 2011

Asheville Major James Holland Hipps, 85, of Cedar Hill Road, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at his home. A native of Buncombe County, Major Hipps had served as a minister in the Salvation Army. He was a veteran of the US Coast Guard. Major Hipps was the son of the late Walter Henry and Ada Grogan Hipps, and was also preceded in death by a brother. He is survived by his wife, Major Mary Lou Arnold Hipps, of the home; four sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday at the Salvation Army Church Corps on Haywood Road, with Lt. Brett Cundiff officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Hipps family.
