Fairview Lela Mae Whitaker Trantham, 87, formerly of Old Fort Road, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Mayflower Senior Living. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired from Taylor Instruments and formerly worked at CP Claire. She was a lifetime member of Laurel Pines Baptist Church where she had served as pianist for 70 years. Mrs. Trantham was the daughter of the late Robert Taylor Whitaker and Laura Cornelius Wright Whitaker and wife of Melvin Willis Trantham who died October 27, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her seven brothers, Alvin, Benny, James, Arvin, Claude, Robert and Bud Whitaker and three sisters, Linnie Wright, Martha Trantham and Lib Jenkins; special nephew, Clifton Wright and niece, Helen Whitaker Hollifield. Surviving are her nieces, Janice Richardson and Donna Boone and nephews, Robey Wright, Joe Trantham, Arvin Jenkins, Bruce Whitaker, Keith Whitaker and Mike Whitaker. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, August 9, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Cane Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
