OXFORD, MS -Loree Ward Davis, 84, passed away Sunday, September 2 in Oxford, MS following an extended illness. Mrs. Davis was a former longtime resident of Candler until her health began to fail. She had moved to Oxford in 2003 to be near her daughter. Mrs. Davis was born in Madison County NC on October 26, 1922. She was a daughter of the late Elbert N. Ward and Annie Crowder Ward. She was the widow of the late Ted D. Davis. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Wendell Ward and Warren C. Ward, Sr. Mrs. Davis retired from American Enka Corp. after working there for more than 25 years. She was a longtime faithful member of the former Pisgah United Methodist Church at Candler. She is survived by her son, Edward R. Davis, and his wife Kathie, of Newark, DE, daughter, Carolyn Allen and her husband, Michael of Oxford, MS. In addition to her two children, Mrs. Davis has seven grandsons, Bryan, Trevor, Kevin, Casey Davis and Justin, Jonathan, and Cameron Allen. Also, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hilda Young of Candler, and one brother, Robert Ward of Greeneville, TN. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Sept.7, at the Upper Room Baptist Church, formerly Pisgah United Methodist Church, with the Reverend H. D. Houck officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6 at Anders Rice Funeral Home in Asheville.
