Lois Ingle Mcdonald

May 19, 1920 — November 8, 2005

Arden Lois Margaret Ingle McDonald, 85, departed this life Tuesday, November 8, 2005, following a period of declining health. She was born in Buncombe County to the late William Herbert and Gertrude Creasman Ingle and was married for 58 years to her beloved husband Thomas Sheridan McDonald who died on August 14, 1997. She graduated from Valley Springs High School where she was a star basketball player. During WW II she moved with her husband, who was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, to several locations including Enid, OK. When her husband was transferred to the Aleutian Islands she returned to Arden and worked for American Enka Corp where she resumed her love for basketball by joining their companys team where she served as captain. After the war she gave birth to her four children and stayed at home raising her family until her youngest started school. She then joined the newly opened Taylor Instruments in Arden where she worked until 1975 when she joined her husband in retirement. Surviving are her son, Gary S. McDonald and wife, Judy of Asheville; three daughters, Sharon Lois McDonald of Arden, Janet McDonald and husband, Bill of Mars Hill and Ila Virginia McDonald of Arden; grandchildren, Cheryl McDonald Jones and husband, Michael of Charleston, SC, Andrew McDonald of Horseshoe and his special friend, Paige Dolan and Cayla Margaret McDonald of Arden; two sisters, Grace Virginia Ingle Hawkins of Arden and Ila Ingle Parham of Leicester. She was also blessed with many nieces and nephews including her most beloved Vicki and Cathy Hawkins of Arden and Shirley Clark and Debbie Parham of Leicester. She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Averys Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brenda Newman officiating. Her family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery where she will again rest beside her dear husband. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. Flowers are appreciated and for those that wish memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813 in her memory. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
