Asheville - Lloyd Edward Williams, Sr., 82, of 1337 Merrimon Ave. died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at the Hospice Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp, serving during WW II. Mr. Williams was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville for 53 years and was a member of the Kings Men Sunday School Class. At his death, he was a Life Member of the Supreme Council Royal Arcanum Executive Committee, having served in that position for 30 years. Mr. Williams retired in 1982 as Assistant Fire Chief from the City of Asheville. He was a member of the North Carolina Fire Chiefs Association, a member of Masonic Lodge #446, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the son of the late Edward M. and Frances Lewellyn Williams. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Eva Estelle Craft Williams of the home; sons, Lloyd Edward Ed Williams, Jr. and wife Jan of Indian Trail, NC and Dr. Steven Alan Williams of Asheville; daughter, Helen Patricia Agee and husband Royce of Danville, VA; 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Asheville with the Revs. Dr. Guy Sayles and Karla Miller officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with firefighters rites provided by The Buncombe County Firefighters Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 PM Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
