Linda Smith Chitwood

Asheville Linda Joy Smith Chitwood, 57, of 220 White Pine Drive died peacefully Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Asheville. She was the daughter of Hazel Dalton Smith, with whom she made her home, and the late Melvin Smith. She was born June 25, 1951. She was a 1969 graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, attended UNCA and was a member of Haywood Street United Methodist Church. Linda loved spending time at Lake Lure swimming and boating with her father. She will be remembered for her loving smile and kindness to everyone. Surviving in addition to her mother are her aunt, Jewell Brantley and family Sharon Hawkins, Diane Lee and David Brantley all of Suffolk, VA.; aunt, Virginia Wilson; uncle, Lindbergh Dalton; cousins, Joan, David, Tiffany and Tara Nelon, Travis and Eric Dalton, Jerry Warren, Larry and Garry Dalton all of Bills Creek Community of Lake Lure; cousins and dear friends, Gary and Carol Sue Jensen of Franklin and Bruce and Rachel Jensen of Asheville. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dot Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday prior to services at the funeral home. Keever, Jr. Solace Center for all their love and care to Linda during her last days.
