Asheville Lillian Mae Sinclair Wherrett Bowling, 93, of 52 Merion Drive, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Aston Park Health Care Center. Lillian or Skippy, as she was known by many friends, was born in Detroit, MI on February 10, 1920 and was a long time resident of Battle Creek, MI and Bellevue, FL. She was the daughter of the late Arnold Archie Sinclair and Artie Berry Sinclair and the widow of the late Emmett Washington Bowling. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Corwin Wherrett, II and Bob Wherrett and brothers, Matt and John Sinclair. A 1938 graduate of Detroits Commerce High School, during WWII, she was one of the many Rosie the Riveters building B-24 bombers in a Detroit defense plant. She retired from the Michigan Carton Company where she served as an Administrative Assistant. She was an active partner to her husband Emmett in his many activities as President of the Florida UAW Retirees. She was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church and she enjoyed her love of gardening, music, dancing and playing bingo. Surviving are her sons, CJ Cork Wherrett, III and wife Martha Ducker Wherrett with whom she resided until September 2010 and Donald A. Wherrett; step daughters, Margaret Lee Bowling Derbin and Victoria Bowling Lutz; step son, E. Jerry Bowling; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and was formerly married to Corwin J. Wherrett, Sr. with whom she had 4 sons. Memorial services will be held 5 PM Thursday, March 7, 2013 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Wes Austin officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date in Belleview, FL.
