Asheville - Lillian Calloway Lanning, 84, of 100 Riceville Rd., formerly of 178 Louisiana Ave. passed away Sunday, January 22, 2006 following a long battle with Alzheimers. She retired in 1994 from Tyco, formerly Taylor Instrument after 30 years of service. She was a daughter of the late Zeb Franklin and Allie Bell Calloway and was also preceded in death by an infant twin sister, Elizabeth; brothers, Roy, Kenneth, Herman and Robert Calloway; 3 grand children, Shelia and Chuck Smith and Clint Burris and a son-in-law, Charles D. Smith, Sr. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Robert Charles Lanning; ten children, Patsy Smith, Doris Quakenbush and husband Donald, Charles Lanning and wife Barbara, Susie Roseborough and husband Carl, Nancy Burris and husband Ronnie, Joyce Moulds and special family friend Jeff Moulds, Debbie Lanning, Kathy Lanning, Jim Lanning and wife Judy, Sharon Anders and husband Wayne; three sisters, Betty Capps, Thelma Calloway and JoAnn McMahan; brother, Harold Calloway; 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to: Alzheimers Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 31 College Street, Asheville, NC 28801. The family wishes to give a special thanks to the 200 Hall of The Laurels of Summit Ridge for the love and care that they have given to Mom Lanning for the past 5 years.
