Leona Norton "Nanny" Buckner

Leicester - Leona Elsie Nanny Norton Buckner, 87, of 35 Buckner Hill Rd., went to be with her Lord Sunday, December 19, 2004 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Tullahoma, Tennessee. She had resided in Buncombe County most of her life, was a homemaker and member of Corinth Baptist Church. Mrs. Buckner was a daughter of the late Lee Allison and Mary Frances Metcalf Norton and wife of Howard Glenn Buckner who died in 1985. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Don Norton and Lee Norton. Surviving are her sons, Robert Lee Sonny Buckner of Leicester and Harold Clifton Buckner and wife, Shirley of Leicester; daughter, Sandra Lee May and husband, Dr. Ralph May of Morganton; sister, Louise Houck of Asheville; grandchildren, Travis May of Knoxville, Tn., Scherrie Vicks of Leicester, Tammy Smith of Atlanta, Ga. and Lee Buckner of Leicester; great grandchildren, Whitney, Austin, Mackenzie, Kassidy and Hadley Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Ralph May and Rev. Charles Surrett officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
