Leona Mccarson Gray

Leicester Leona McCarson Gray, 92, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at her home. A native of Macon County, Mrs. Gray had resided in Buncombe County for the past 73 years. She was an avid gardener, seamstress and quilter, and always enjoyed her time with her family. Mrs. Gray was the daughter of the late Charlie Monroe and Mary Magdeline Gibson Wooten, and the wife of the late Edward Delas McCarson, who passed away February 19, 1973. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are her daughters: Barbara M. Payne and Linda D. McCarson, both of Leicester; grandsons: Michael Evan Brown and Chris McCarson and wife DeAnna, all of Leicester; sisters: Velma Estes and Irene Hampton, both of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Western Chapel UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00- 2:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
