Asheville - James Leon Nanney, 67, of 671 New Haw Creek Road, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at his residence. A native and resident for most of his life of Buncombe County, he was a disabled Vietnam veteran, having served in the US Navy and was the son of the late Hubert Franklin Nanney and Maude Marie Trantham Nanney. Surviving are his daughter, Autumn Dawn Putnam and husband Robert and grandson, Jax William Putnam all of Asheville. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the US Navy. The family will receive friends from 7:00 8:30 PM Tuesday at the Anders-Rice Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.
