Larry W. Penland

Candler Larry Weaver Penland, 79, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 at his residence. A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Penland retired in 1992 as a Clerk for the USPS. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the US Air Force following 20 years of service. Mr. Penland was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Joyce Cothran Penland who died October 29, 2016 and his beloved cat, Buddy. He was the son of the late Weaver Jennings Penland and Hazel Annette Bugg Penland. He leaves behind his children, Robert Carl Penland, Cathy Marie Penland, Recia Lee Penland all of Candler; grandchildren, Adam Robert Cabe (Amanda), Alan Clifford Cabe, Amber Lee Cabe and Katie Marie Maynor (Scoot) and great-grandchildren, Chloe, Michael, Stella, Joey, Maggie, Lillie and Haven. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with the Rev. Darrell McClaren officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by a detachment from Shaw Air Force Base.
