Larry Newton Smith

Fredricksburg, VA - Larry Newton Smith, 54, of 7613 Regency Glen Drive, died suddenly July 20, 2004 at his residence. A native of Buncombe County, he had resided in Virginia for the past 20 years. He was a Systems Analysist with the Federal Elections Commission in Washington, DC. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the US Marine Corps and US Coast Guard. He was the son of Thursia Sellers Smith of Asheville and the late Jack Newton Smith. Surviving in addition to his mother are a son, Joshua Newton Smith of Pennsylvania; three daughters: Katrina Marie Smith, Leslie Margaret Smith, and Melinda Sue Smith, all of Woodbridge, VA; a sister, Cricket DeWeese of Southport, NC; an aunt, Mary Church of Asheville; and an uncle, Bobby Smith of Asheville. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Shelton will officiate. The family will be at the home of his mother, 137 Eastwood Ave., Swannanoa.
