June Slagle

Arden June Blackburn Slagle, 75, of Arden, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at her home. A native of Mitchell County, Mrs. Slagle had resided in Swain County before moving to Buncombe County in 1964. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed her pets and living her life through her grandchildren. Mrs. Slagle was the daughter of the late Joe and Valare Buchanan Blackburn. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Evans, and brother, Joe Edward Blackburn. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, John Douglas JD Slagle, of the home; children: Jimmy Slagle and wife Susan of Greensboro, Johnny Slagle and wife Linda of Taylorsville, Joyce Freeman and husband Stephen of Bat Cave, Jerry Slagle of Wellford, SC, and Carolyn Marlowe and husband Barry of Fairview; and grandchildren: Tabitha, Aleesia, Shawn, Joshua, Matthew, Daylon, Timothy, Mary Rose, and Abigail. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. David MacEachern officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
