Asheville Evelyn June Metcalf Cochran, 81, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 11, 2015 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Madison County, she had resided in Buncombe County since 1981 and was a homemaker. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Fleet Reserve Ladies Auxiliary, was a long timer Volunteer at the VA Hospital, was an avid Bowler in WNC and was a member of the Mount Zion Independent Baptist Church in Skyland. Mrs. Cochran was the daughter of the late Gaither James Metcalf and Minnie Gertrude McCormick Metcalf. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, James, Eugene, Aldean and Stanley and sister, Imogene. Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Billy OBrien Cochran of the home; children, Diane Miller of Asheville, Teresa Hedger (Karl) of Woodstock, GA, Steve Cochran (Janice) of Canton, Sue Craig (Bobby) of Morganton, Bob Cochran (Trish) of Conover; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Wednesday, May 13, 2015 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Cecil Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday following the services at the funeral home. Burial will be held at 10 AM Thursday, May 14, 2015 in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
