Judy Mcabee Smith

November 7, 1948 — February 19, 2006

Candler - Judy Gail McAbee Smith, 57, of 819 Monte Vista Road, went to be with her Lord February 19, 2006 at Hospice Solace Center. A native and resident most of her life of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of Vivian Kirby McAbee of Oakley and the late R.M. McAbee and was the wife of Eugene C. Smith who went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2001. Mrs. Smith was a Title 1 Assistant at Candler Elementary School. She graduated from Western Carolina University, Magna Cum Laude, with a BS in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in Social Studies/Language Arts. She was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church in Candler for 25 years, serving as a pianist, Sunday School teacher, AWANA Club leader and several other committees. Surviving in addition to her mother are her daughter, Marsha Smith Bradley and husband Clifton of Swannanoa; son, Kevin Eugene Smith and wife Amy of Candler; grandson, Logan W. Smith of Candler; sisters, Patricia Dills and Janice Kerley of Candler and Dena Smith of Jupiter; brothers, Bruce McAbee of Conover and Kenneth McAbee of Arden and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Todd Cole, Gene King and William LaMore officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
