Black Mountain Judith Judy Kibby Freeman Melton left this world to be with her Lord April 27, 2011 after losing her battle with cancer. Judy was the daughter of the late William Granville and Mildred Lee Sawyer Kibby. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Freeman; and son, Harold Freeman. Judy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Swannanoa, and loved her church family. She taught GAs and RAs for forty years, taught Sunday School, was a part of A Company Of Love clown ministry, and participated in mission work in Haiti. Her life was spent in service to others and will be missed. Surviving are her children: Ray Freeman (Beverly) of Asheville, Deborah Shepard (George) of Canton, Steve Freeman (Maureen) of Fortuna, CA, and Butch Freeman (Cecelia) of Black Mountain; great-niece, Tracey Murphy, of the home; second husband, Larry Melton, of Black Mountain; grandchildren: Keith Freeman, Trent Freeman, Heidi Sams, Haley Prince, April Lytle, Erin Freeman, Faith Freeman, Patience Freeman, Angele Freeman, and Lovella Freeman; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, John Kibby of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Swannanoa, with the Rev. Steve Rayburn officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
