Asheville - Juanita Kyzer McCary, 86, died Friday - November 2, 2007 at the Western Carolina Baptist Home. A native of Phenix City, AL, she had lived in Asheville for the last several years. She was a 1938 graduate of Selma High School in Selma, AL.. She was a former Worthy Matron of the Elizabeth Spearman Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Anniston, AL. She was awarded as one of the 10 outstanding teachers in the state of Alabama in 1956 while at Walter Wellborn High School For Outstanding Service to Alabama Youth. She was named secretary of the year in 1964 by the Satellite Chapter of National Secretaries Association in Huntsville, AL and was former state president of the National Secretaries Association in Alabama. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church in Asheville, NC since 1995 and was a Charter Member of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL. She was named the Volunteer of the Year for The Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove in Asheville, NC in 2001. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Leslie and Sarah Lodessa Carmack Kyzer and the wife of the late Garland H. McCary. Surviving are her son Robert Leslie McCary, Sr. and wife June of Asheville; 2 grandchildren, Rob McCary of Weaverville and Heather McCary Edin of Durham and 7 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home wit Rev. Dr Ian Walker officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Huntsville, AL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Asheville, NC 28801.
