Joyce Sluder

January 29, 1924 — March 25, 2017

Asheville Joyce Redmon Sluder, 93, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Buncombe County, Mrs. Sluder had resided in Flat Rock, MI for 29 years prior to returning to Buncombe County in 1981. She was a member of Alexander Baptist Church, and enjoyed reading her Bible, having read it through six to seven times. Mrs. Sluder was the daughter of the late John Harrison and Annie Mae Gaddy Redmon, and the wife of Earl Sluder, who passed away in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Ava Ward, Ruby Whitt, Bert Griffin, and Dollie Farmer; and two brothers: Troy and Scott Redmon. Surviving are her daughter, Donna Stockdale, of the home; son, Dennis Sluder of Venice, FL; twin grandchildren: Robin Harwood (John), and Earl Stockdale; three great-grandchildren: Austyn Harwood, Presley Stockdale and Julianna Stockdale; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Whitson officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Care Partners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
