Joyce Ann Southerland

Jacksonville, FL- Joyce Ann Southerland, 60, passed away Friday, January 9, 2009 at the McGraw Community Hospice Center in Jacksonville, FL. A native of Asheville, she had resided in Jacksonville since 1989. Joyce retired from AT&T as an operator and was a member of The First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. She was an avid Jacksonville Jaguars fan and season ticket holder. Joyce was the daughter of the late George Oliver and Helen Beatrice Lindsey Southerland. She was also preceded in death by two nephews and two great-nephews. Surviving are her sister, Georgia G. Southerland of Jacksonville; brothers: Jerry O. Southerland and wife Brenda of Asheville and Bruce K. Southerland and wife Maria of New Market, MD; nieces and nephews: Chris M. Southerland and wife Brenda, Jeffrey S. Southerland, Shelly (Michelle) M. Southerland and husband Phillip, Nicole L. Southerland and Sean M. Southerland; and great-nieces and nephews: Devin M. Robinson, Miranda M. Southerland, Jessica N. Smith, Alanna L. Southerland and Navarrie H. Southerland. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Penley and Rev. Bill Higgins officiating. Entombment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The V. Foundation for Cancer Research, 106 Towerview Court, Cary, NC 27513.
