Joy Christine Burns Brooks

Enka - Joy Christine Burns Brooks, 62, of 31 Orchard Street died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Duke University Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Woodfin and a resided in Enka for the past 35 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Irene Belt Burns and her father, Benjamin Tilman Burns. Mrs. Brooks retired in 1999 as an Representative for Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company. She never met a stranger and all of those who knew her, were blessed to have known her. Surviving among her many adopted family and friends are her loving and devoted husband, Donald Lee Brooks of the home; son, Eddie Gardner and wife, Laura of Mills River; son, Gene Calloway of the home; son, Benjie Calloway and wife, Sissy and precious five month old grand-daughter, Montana Irene Calloway all of Weaverville. She was also a loving step-mother to her stepdaughter, Tina Crawford and husband, John and sons, Josh and Taylor all of Yulee, FL and stepson, Shane Brooks and friend, Tina and his children, Victoria, Alexander and Halona all of Jacksonville, FL. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Sunday at Elk Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry Gaddis officiating. Burial will be in Elk Mountain Cemetery.
