Joseph Metcalf

ASHEVILLE Joseph Oliver Metcalf, 66, of 27 Rash Road passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at his home. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He retired from Fishburne International, was a member of Long Shoals Baptist Church, was a graduate of Western Carolina University where he received his B.S. Degree in Industrial Engineering and was a U.S. Marine during the Vietnam War. Mr. Metcalf was a son of the late Mose Henry Metcalf and Maybelle Rice Metcalf. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy Lynn Metcalf who died in 1996. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Pat Kay Beachboard Metcalf of the home; sisters, Barbara Lance and Caroline Payne both of Averys Creek; brothers, Calvin Metcalf of Mills River and Herbert Metcalf of West Asheville; 12 nephews, including his special nephew Trever Metcalf of Portland, Oregon. A graveside service will be held 11 A.M. Saturday at Green Hills Cemetery with Rev. Martin D. Payne officiating. The family will receive friends 10 to 10:45 A.M. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
