Asheville - Joseph Granat, 78, of 74 Sleepy Hollow Drive, died Tuesday December 16, 2003 at Mountain Area Hospice. A native of Philadelphia, PA., he had lived in Buncombe County since he was 19 years old. He was a W.W.II Army Veteran during the European Theatre. He retired in 1979 from the U.S. Air Weather Records Center in Asheville. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed playing golf and watching sports on T.V. He was a son of the late John and Anastasia Golinski Granat and husband for 55 1/2 years of the late, Juanita Rice Granat. He was also preceded in death by 3 sisters. Surviving are his daughter, Barbara Sneed of Black Mountain; granddaughter, Colleen Sneed of Black Mountain; Max Buddy Sneed of Marion; sister, Marion Carroll of CT; special friend, Jim Aycock of Black Mountain and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team.
