Joseph Doyle Melton, 79, of Old Starnes Cove Road, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Mission Hospital surrounded by his family. He was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a son of the late Bascombe M. and Maude Ingle Melton. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Annette Creasman Melton, who he lovingly cared for before her passing. He is survived by a daughter, Sheree Montgomery and husband Ron of Asheville; granddaughter, LaShea Wilkie and husband Eddie of Fletcher; four great-grandchildren: Chandler, Anna, Lauren, and Mary Grace; three sisters: Marie Bates of Candler, Eileen Conner of Candler, and Elaine Metcalf of Houston, TX; a brother, William Melton of Asheville; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Joe retired from Concrete Products. He was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and attended North Asheville Baptist Church with his daughter and son-in-law. He had accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed. Graveside services will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 11AM with Rev. Jimmy Dykes officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8PM Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to North Asheville Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Joseph Melton, 20 Reynolds Mountain Blvd., Asheville, NC 28804.
