Josef S. Martin

Weaverville - Josef Sigfried Martin, 72, of 414 Ky Fields died Monday - May 29, 2006 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Koln, Germany, he moved to the Buncombe County area in May of 1995 for the love of the mountains and reminder of his homeland. He was a member of Crossroads Assembly where he served as a Deacon. He also served as the architectural advisor for Ky Fields. He loved his hobbies including his love for his family, carpentry work, walking and watching soccer. In his youth he played semi pro soccer in Koln, Germany and was a member of the German Glee Club. He was a son of the late Emil and Josephine Martin and was also preceded in death by a brother, Emil Martin. Surviving are the love of his life, his wife, Amy C. Martin of the home; daughter, Mary Lou Hellberg of Charlotte; sons, John Steigerwald of Spotsylvania, VA, Josef Erich Martin of Sparta, NJ, Thomas R. Steigerwald of Holtsville, NY, Paul J. Steigerwald of Palmyra, PA, Richard E. Martin of Kings Park, NY, Andrew P. Steigerwald, of Wilmington, and David S. Steigerwald of Boston, Mass.; sister, Wilma Krauss of Koln, Germany and 19 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday at Crossroads Assembly with Pastor Wade Zachary and Pastor John Steigerwald officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the church.
