Johnny Blackwell

John Timothy Johnny Blackwell, 65, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A native of Rockingham, NC, Mr. Blackwell had resided in Buncombe County for 35 years before moving to Boonville. He was the leading heating and air conditioning mechanic for M.B. Haynes, and will always be remembered as a family man, with his wife, children, and grandchildren being his main priority. Mr. Blackwell was the son of the late George and Hazel Dunning Blackwell. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Blackwell. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Margie Burrell Blackwell; children: Ann Blackwell Stafford, John Blackwell, Jr. and wife Jennifer, and William Blackwell and wife Cindy; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; sister, Ellen Coffey; brothers: Curtis, Harry and Buddy Blackwell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
