Burnsville, NC –John Warren Ferguson, 73, passed peacefully home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
A native of Quincy, Massachusetts, he spent the majority of his career as a beloved teacher, both in special education and U.S. History, as well as a longtime summer camp director. John is remembered as a hard worker and provider for his family. He was a lifelong learner and avid reader (Tolstoy among his favorites). John was a devoted fan of his Boston Red Sox, a lover of folk and classic rock music, gardening, and the Smoky Mountains. He became a believer in Jesus in his early twenties and grew in his faith through the ministry of Spanish River Presbyterian Church. He set a Godly foundation for his wife and two daughters, a tie that binds them today.
John is survived by his children: Jessica Ferguson Sandlin and husband Matthew, and Sara Ferguson Whiteman and husband Ryan; mother of his children, Donna Ferguson; grandchildren: James Leighton Sandlin, and Camila Gray Sandlin.
A private family service will be held at a later date in Florida.
