John Thomas "Johnny" Spain

Asheville - John Thomas Johnny Spain, 57, of 76 Raleigh Road died Friday January 16, 2004 in Chapel Hill after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in 1991 from Gerber Baby Products and attended Open Door Cathedral in Biltmore. He was a son of the late James Edward and Juanita Nina McHone Spain and the husband of Barbara Collier Spain who died August 16, 2003. Surviving are his daughter, Joy Balding Newman and husband Steve of Orlando, Fl.; grandchildren, Clark Evans a student at Florida State University and April C. Evans a student at the University of Florida at Gainesville; sisters, Wilma Jean Gentry of Asheville, Joyce Ann Jackson of Fletcher and Sandra Lee Hodgdon of Valrico, Fl. and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Chandley and Rev. Charles Coxie officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times friends may visit at the home of Wilma Gentry - 728 Center Street, Asheville.
