Asheville - John Alan McKinney, Sr., 71, of 8 Valle Vista Drive died Thursday June 9, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital after a period of declining health. A native of Chesnee, SC he had lived in Atlanta, GA for 20 years before moving to Asheville. He retired from Commercial Credit, Co. He did volunteer work with Memorial Mission Hospital and Thoms Rehabilitation Center and was a member of Asheville First Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a graduate of Warren Wilson College. He was a son of the late William Pressley and Frances McMillan McKinney and the husband of the late Darlene Hensley McKinney. Surviving are his sons, David Brian McKinney of Atlanta, GA and J. Alan McKinney, Jr. and wife Gail of Asheville; sisters, Betty Bishop of Cooley Springs, SC and Ann Powell of Inman, SC; brothers, Max McKinney of Cooley Springs, SC and Kenneth McKinney of Cowpens, SC and numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Craig McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Lewis Memorial Park.
