Joanne Baker Brown

March 28, 1934 — August 4, 2011

Asheville Joanne Baker Brown, 77, of 18 Powers Drive went to be with her Lord Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was formerly employed with Mission Hospital before working for Dr. Il Sung Lee where she retired in 1993 and formerly with Western Union. Mrs. Brown was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church and a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and Blantons Business College. Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late Blanchard T. Baker and Barbara Ann Hensley Baker and also preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Brown who died in 1971 and sister, Margie Baker who died in 1927. Surviving are her husband, Dewey Philmore D.P. Brown, whom she married May 8, 1953, of the home; daughters, Dillie Harrison and husband Howard and Kelsey Brown all of San Antonio, TX and Barbara Williams and husband Bruce of Anchorage, AK; son, Dewey R. Brown and wife Christie of Asheville; grandchildren, Will Harrison of Sandpoint, ID, Jason Harrison of San Antonio, TX, Joanna Williams, Kristina Williams and Jeffery Williams all of Anchorage, AK, Carter Brown and Madison Brown both of Asheville; great grandchildren, Charlie Harrison, Juliet Harrison and Ava Harrison of Sandpoint, ID and Katilyn Harrison and Emma Harrison both of San Antonio, TX. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday in the Former Sanctuary of Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Road, Asheville with Rev. Davis Plemmons, Rev. Allen Rash, Rev. Dr. Carson Moseley and Rev. Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 to 2 P.M. Saturday at the church.
