Jim Kerr

James Smith Jim Kerr, 90, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the home of his daughter. A native of Pittsfield, MA, he had resided in Columbia, SC for a number of years prior to moving to Asheville in 2009. He retired from the VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC where he served as an Orthotist Prosthetist. Mr. Kerr served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was the son of the late Robert and Mary Ellen Vaber Kerr. He was the husband of the late Virginia Ruth Rosencrans Kerr, whom he married on December 14, 1949, and was also preceded in death by his son David Allen Kerr. Surviving are his daughter, Marsha Coffey and husband Charles with whom he made his home; son, Steve Kerr and wife Jeannie of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, Jenny, Megan and Marissa and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 4 PM Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Erwin Hills SDA Church. A memorial service will also be held at 4 PM Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Columbia First SDA Church.
