Asheville Jerry Oliver Southerland, 73, of 30 Covered Bridge Lane, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from Southern Concrete as a truck drive for over 20 years and was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church. Mr. Southerland was a son of the late George Oliver Southerland and Helen Beatrice Lindsey Southerland. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Southerland; infant children, Little Jerry and Steven and infant grandchildren, Christian Coty Southerland and Zebadiah Oliver Southerland. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Brenda Ball Southerland of the home; children, Chris Southerland and wife Brenda of Tooele, UT, Jeff Southerland and wife Sonya of Wolf Laurel, Shelley Southerland of Asheville and Eric Capps of Marion; grandchildren, Jessie, Devon, Miranda, Alanna, Navarrie, Mashayla and Jordan; great grandchildren, Jacyee, Mickelle, Brooklyn, Gracie and Braxton; sister, Georgia Southerland of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Bruce (Kenny) Southerland of Baltimore, MD and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, July 2, 2018 at Sunrise Baptist Church, 419 Deaverview Road, Asheville, with Rev. Stanley Taylor and Rev. Marc Penley officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 PM Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
