Jerry LeRoy Bowers, 78, of Asheville died unexpectedly Saturday, May 13, 2017. Jerry was born in Andrews, NC, April 8, 1939 and grew up in Bryson City, NC and graduated from Swain County High School. He had lived in Asheville since 1966. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed R. Bowers and Ruth Solesbee Bowers and sister, Peggy Bowers Heckerman. Jerry retired form the NC Department of Transportation with 30+ years of service. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, and serving as a deacon and choir member. He had a love of Southern Gospel and shared the gospel of Jesus Christ singing with several gospel groups through the years. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Clark Bowers, whom he married August 18, 1973. Also surviving are his sister, June Bowers McDonald, of Lillington, NC, and brother, Tony R. Bowers of Siler City, NC. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family members, including his child of the heart Nicole Price and her parents Lisa and Roger Price. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 16, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Keith Hutchinson and Rev. Everette C. Haney, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be: Roger Price, Allen Whitt, James Whitt, Willis Henson, Ken Weatherman, and Harold Laflin. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jim House, James Leeper, Bob Gosnell, Lyle Boyd, and Henry Williams.
