Jerry Henderson

Leicester William Gerald Jerry Henderson, 79, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at his home. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Henderson was the son of the late William Glenn and Mary Creasman Henderson. He retired as a firefighter with the Asheville City Fire Department and was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He was of the Baptist faith, and was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. Mr. Henderson was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was an active member of the French Broad Rifle Club. But his passion was his family. He was a loving husband and father, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his world. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Kathryn Shoffner Henderson; daughters: Margo Goldsmith (Steve) and Jennifer Holcombe (Randy Bradford); grandchildren: Melinda Askew (Justin), Stephanie Lounsbury (Jamie), Jessica Hicks (Michael), Miranda Parrish (Winston), and Tyler Goldsmith; six great-grandchildren; brother, Ronnie Henderson; nephew, Rodney Henderson; niece, April Dodd; and many close cousins. A Celebration of Life for Mr. Henderson will be held at 5:30 PM Saturday, April 9, at the gymnasium of Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Road, Asheville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Buncombe Volunteer Fire Department, 549 Old County Home Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
