Jefferson William May Sr.

Asheville Jefferson William May, Sr., 89, of Asheville, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009. Mr. May was born on July 4, 1919 in Macon County. He retired from the NCDMV as a supervisor license examiner after 37 years of service. He was a World War II veteran. He was a member of the Grand Lodge AF & AM of NC, Junaluskee Lodge 145 in Franklin, NC since December 20, 1945, and became a member of the Noble Mystic Shrine on October 22, 1960. Mr. May is survived by his wife of sixty years, Edith Mayo May; son, Jefferson William May, Jr., grandson, Jefferson Davis May and wife Amanda, grand- daughter, Carolyn May; daughter, Holly May Norton, granddaughter, Emma Norton; and son, Timothy Carlton May and wife Julie, and their children: Megan, Benjamin, and Molly; as well as sister, Emma Jane Landry of Houston, TX. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday at Briartown Baptist Church in Macon County. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jeffs name to the Masonic Home for Children, 60 College St., Oxford, NC 27563, or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, C/O Oasis Shrine Temple Charlotte, 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28262.
