Jannette Dillard

August 12, 1926 — April 7, 2011

Asheville Jannette White Dillard, 84, of Asheville, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Fleshers Fairview Health Care Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she graduated from Canton High School, and received her B. A. Degree from Western Carolina University, and her Masters from Peabody University. Mrs. Dillard retired in 1982 following 35 years of teaching at Haw Creek Elementary School, Venable Elementary School, Erwin High School and Candler High School. She was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Mrs. Dillard was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and served on the NCAE as a state and local officer. Mrs. Dillard was the daughter of the late Charles Payne White and Martha Jane Shelton White Lisenbee, and the wife of Thomas Avery Dillard, who passed away September 11, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son, James Mark Dillard, and brother, Red White. Surviving are her daughter, Anne Dillard Alley and husband Boyce of Asheville; a special daughter, Kathy Hooper and husband Rev. Tony Hooper; grandchildren: Amanda E. A. Morrison and husband Brian, Ashley Jannette Alley, Heather Pinkerton and husband Stephen and Rev. Ryan Hooper and wife Angela; great-grandchildren: Tommy, Maya, Brendan and Elias; and brothers: Dewey White and Kenneth White and wife Helen, all of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony Hooper, Rev. Keith Morrison, and Rev. Stan Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fleshers Fairview Health Care Employee Appreciation Fund, 3016 Cane Creek Road, Fairview, NC 28730.
