James Parris "Pat" Dalton

May 10, 1922 — March 18, 2005

Fairview - James Parris Pat Dalton, 82, of 1254 Old Fort Road, passed away Friday, March 18, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Dalton was born in Rutherford County, but spent his entire life in the Fairview community. He retired from the VA Medical Center as the Chief of Operations, and had worked for Mosers for 20 years prior to that. He was an ordained Deacon with Oteen Baptist Church. Mr. Dalton served proudly as a Sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers during World War II, where he earned five Bronze Stars and The Bronze Arrowhead. He was the son of the late Curtis Youns and Cordellia Patricia Dotson Dalton. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Louise Dalton, and two brothers, Clephone and Everett Dalton. Surviving are his wife, Helen Miller Simpson Dalton of the home; his son, Danny Dalton and wife Carol of Swanannoa; his daughter, Shirley Davis and husband Lonnie of Hendersonville; his step-daughter, Tonia Sherlin and husband Ken of Asheville; five grandchildren: Stacey Sullens, Jason Dillevig, Johanna Dalton, Kenny Sherlin, and Candice Freeman; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Mack Dalton of Fairview, and his sister, Beth Hunter of Fairview. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ron Brown and Rev. Richard Kinsland officiating. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team at Cane Creek Cemetery immediately following the service. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
