James Melvin Hyatt

Candler - James Melvin Hyatt, 81, of 191 Childers Rd. died Thursday, January 6, 2004 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a retired tree surgeon, a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Hyatt was the son of the late James Raymond and Roseanner Moody Hyatt and was the husband of the late Ruby Joyce Wallace Hyatt who died in 1977. Surviving are his son, Marvin Hyatt of the home; daughters, Joyce Durham and husband Jerry Sr. of Lawrenceville, VA, Sue Hyatt of NC and Nancy Lawing and husband Bruce of Leicester; sister, Carrie Mae Stevens of Alabama; brother, Junior Hyatt of Candler; grandchildren, Jason Lawing of Leicester, Shane Brown of Asheville, Anthony Durham, Jr. and wife Melissa of Petersburg, VA, Tammy Crawford and husband Chris of Dinwiddie, VA and Angela Yvonne Hyatt; great grandchildren, Tayla Brown of Asheville, Evan and Tyler Brown of Washington state, Megan Crawford of Dinwiddie, VA and Aaron Matthew Durham of Petersburg, VA. Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Rice officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Shane Brown, Floyd Austin, Ralph Hyatt, Charles Mosley, Jerry Anthony Durham Sr. and Jerry Anthony Durham, Jr. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
