Candler- James Howard Salter, 82, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 16, 2004 at his residence. Born in Geneva, AL, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1942. Mr. Salter retired from American Enka after 37 years of service, a member of Glady Baptist Church, and a US Army Veteran of World War II. He was the son of the late William Wiley and Texas Crenshaw Salter. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Jean Tesner Baine, and two sisters: Frances Turner and Mary Jo Salter. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ethel Salter of the home; his son, James Wiley Salter of Asheville; grandchildren: Don Tesner, Ricky Tesner, Susan Brown, Lea Faulkner and Colleen McCurry; seven great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery in Haywood County. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
