Candler – James Gilbert Freeman, 74, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the V.A. Medical Valor Hospice Center of which he was an Army veteran. He was the son of the late Royal and Juanita Jones Freeman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Donna; beloved daughter, Tammy Thompson; sister, Revonda Hampton and half brother, Wayne Jones. James is survived by his soulmate and companion of 14 ½ years, Judy Mashburn; two step daughters, Tammy Kodet (Sean) of Hendersonville and Robin Hunnicutt (Bud) of Candler; brothers, Ross Freeman (Sharon) of Leicester and Alan Freeman of Asheville; sister, Linda Lunsford of Greenville, SC; grandson, Caleb Thompson (Kaylee) and granddaughter, Megan Thompson all of Florien, LA; one great-granddaughter, Jordan; two step granddaughters, Felicia Norton (Steve) and Haley Carter; four step great grandchildren, Riley, Steve, Wesley and Tucker, and several nieces and nephews. Grandchildren by heart, Brandon Mashburn, Terra Pittman (Robbie), Joshua Hunnicutt (Krystal), Trenton Owens, BreeAnna Austin (Jeffrey) all of Candler; Jesse Mashburn (Heather) of Raleigh; also, Brooklyn, McKenzie, Lincoln Pittman, Quinn and Asa Mashburn, Macen Clubb and Michael Christopher. The family wishes to thank the staff of V.A. Oncology Department and Valor Hospice for all the kindness and care given to James during his extended illness. We would also like to thank the nurses and CNA’s of CarePartner’s Home Health. As per James’ wishes, there will be no formal service; however, there will be a visitation from 2 to 4 PM Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
