James F. "Bill" Carter Jr.

Candler - James Fred Bill Carter, Jr., 81, of 576 Davis Creek Rd. died Sunday, October 26, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. Mr. Carter retired from E A Industries where he served as a machinist, was a World War II U S Airforce Veteran, a 1941 graduate of of Candler High School and a graduate of Asheville-Biltmore College where he received his Associates Degree in Engineering. He was a member of Davis Chapel United Methodist Church where he formerly served as Superintendent and prior to his illness headed the Administrative Board. He was a son of the late J. Fred Carter, Sr. and Lillian Davis Carter. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary Jo D. Carter of the home; son, J. Joel Carter of Wasilla, Alaska; daughter, Jill Carter of Chapel Hill; grand daughters, Kelly Carter of Asheville and Heather Carter of Johnson City, Tennessee; sister, Betty Israel of Candler; brother, Chris T. Carter of Asheville. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Gerald Denham and Rev. J. Joel Carter officiating. Entombment will follow at the cemetery. They will be no formal visitation, however, friends may visit at Anders-Rice Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday in respect of Mr. Carter and his family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Davis Chapel United Methodist Church, 36 Piney Mountain Church Road, Candler, N.C. 28715.
