Asheville James Edward Martin, 80, died Sunday October 1, 2006 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Catawba County, he had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a retired teacher from the Buncombe County Schools and was co-owner of Martin Monument Company. He was a member of Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446. He was a son of the late Richard and Pearl R. Martin and was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Almeta Yount, Lucille Bunton and Pauline Abee and 3 brothers, Schular, D.C. and Thurman Martin. Surviving are his wife, Anne Propst Martin of the home; sons, Michael F. Martin and Jeffrey A. Martin both of Asheville; 2 grandsons, Zeb Martin and wife Allison and Ben Martin and wife Kelli; 1 granddaughter, Sarah Martin and 2 great grandchildren, Zack and Ava Martin. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Gashes Creek Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites conducted by Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446, the lodge will open at 1:00 P.M. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, P.O.
