Asheville James Albert Ward, 81, formerly of 58 Hubbard Avenue, went to be with his Lord Friday, April 21, 2006 at the Brian Center of Weaverville. A native of Buncombe County and a member of Happy Valley Baptist Church. He retired in December of 1981 following 30 years of service from the U.S. Government. At the time of his retirement he worked at the Weather Bureau where he served as a Data Card Technician and was a W.W. II U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Ward was the son of the late William Fletcher and Ethel Sprouse Ward. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Anna Davis. Surviving are his sisters; Stella Burke and husband, James and Edith Benfield and husband, Bill all of Asheville and Dorothy Reece of Candler and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Bennie Wade and Mr. Bob Craft officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
