Jacob "Jacobito" Thompson Armstrong Ridinger

May 24, 1984 — July 5, 2024

Jacob “Jacobito” Thompson Armstrong Ridinger, 40, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 5, 2024, at his residence in Asheville, NC.

A native of Antigua, Guatemala, Jacob was a loving wanderer who lived in many places, including Montana, Colorado, and Asheville, NC, where he owned and operated a tree care business. He was the son of Mary Lou Ridinger and the late Jay G. Ridinger.

Jacob, known to many as Jake, or as he would say "Brazo Fuerte" (strong arm in Spanish, a play on his name), was always unapologetically himself.

His authenticity made everyone feel like a friend and equal and despite his towering presence, he never made anyone feel small.

Jake's laughter was infectious, and his smile and energy were contagious. His hugs, which felt like being wrapped in a warm blanket, will be dearly missed.

Jake lived his life on his own terms, always with a kind word and a smile. His kind, brave, and adventurous spirit made him a beloved friend to many. His easygoing nature and generous heart endeared him to all who crossed his path. Above all, he was a devoted father to his cherished son, Rafa, and stepson, Maceo, both of whom were the light of his life.

This gentle giant is now spreading his light elsewhere, but his spirit continues to shine brightly from a distance. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and music. Though he is no longer with us, the memories of his gentle presence and the melodies he loved will forever remain in our hearts. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Jake. May your soul fly free.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Mary Lou Ridinger; his son, Rafael Otile Park Ridinger; his stepson, Maceo Maddy; the mother of his children, Lyra Park Maddy; siblings: Angela Ridinger, Robin Ridinger Cohen, and Renee Taylor; aunts: Georgeann Johnson and Christina Johnson; cousin, David Gabriel Bau; nieces and nephew: Andrea Novella, Christian Novella, Rachel Lack, and Ariela Lack; great-niece, Maya Lack; and many extended family and friends.

The family will hold private memorial services in Asheville, NC, and Antigua, Guatemala.

Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center is honored to serve the Ridinger family.
