ASHEVILLE - John (Jack) Sevier Wampler, Jr. died January 18, 2008. He was born June 5, 1921 in Norton, VA, the son of the late John and Lillian Wolfe Wampler. Jack worked in the food service industry in Asheville for many years, most recently at J&S Cafeteria. He was a 1943 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and was an avid Hokie fan throughout his life. Jack served in the US Army, 90th Infantry during World War II. He was the husband of the late Sigrid Hollifield Bowman Wampler, and attended Pole Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters: Pam Hood of Greensboro, NC and Ann Ingle of Loganville, GA; two step-sons: Hank Bowman of Candler and Allen Bowman of Inman, SC; five grandchildren: Nicholas Hood, Jr. of Greensboro, Mary Katherine Heath of Apex, NC, Sarah Willing of Peachtree, City, GA, Allison Ingle of Loganville, and Britany Bowman of Inman; one great-grandchild, Natalie Hood of Greensboro; one brother, William C. Wampler of Bristol, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Pole Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M.
