Asheville Jack McCurry, 68, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at his home. A native of Buncombe County, Jack was an avid collector, specializing in Christmas items, as well as a Bonsai tree enthusiast. He worked as an accountant, and was a veteran of the US Navy during the Viet Nam era. Jack was the son of the late Andrew and Alma Netherton McCurry. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gilmore V. McCurry, and a sister, Gloria Kathleen Walker. Surviving are his long time friend, Lee Teague; sister, Dorothy Ogle; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved pets: his beagle, Tank, and his yellow-napped Amazon parrot, Hobo. A memorial graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:30 PM Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
