Asheville - Jack Herbert Lankford, 75, of 32 Balm Grove Avenue died Sunday October 3, 2004 at Magnolia Health Care Center following a long illness. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in 1991 from Burns International Security Co. as an Area Manager. Mr. Lankford was of the Baptist Faith, served as the president of the Resident Council at Magnolia Health Care Center, a WW II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the American Legion. He was the son of the late Hiram Peter and Viola Swainey Lankford and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Bettie Henry formerly of Asheville. Surviving are his wife, Mary Lankford of the home; son, Jack R. Lankford and wife Theresa of Nokomis, IL.; beloved adopted daughter, Pam Troutman and fianc, George Sprinkle of Leicester; daughter, Rebecca McConnell of Asheville; son, Samuel H. Lankford of Greensboro; daughter, Cynthia Williams and husband, Dee of Leicester; 8 grandchildren, including Christopher and Samantha McConnell; 5 great grandchildren and beloved pet, Lady. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Private burial will be Wednesday in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
